Is a Depression Test Online Useful?

Depression is one of the silent mental maladies that can affect anyone. Often, the term silent is given to this disorder because frequently the individual suffers in silence and adversely affects those individuals around them. In addition, the individual and their loved ones often do nothing about this disorder because of the various stigmas that are attached to the medical condition of depression. Therefore, if an individual thinks that they are experiencing depression or knows of someone who struggles with depression, it is important that they receive treatment for this psychological malady. Often, the first step of many people is to take a depression test online.

As with any disease or malady it is important to identify the symptoms of the condition so that the diagnosis can be made and treatment can be prescribed. The same is true when it comes to identifying an individual or other family member who may be experiencing depression.

First of all, it is important to distinguish between clinical depression and just being sad. Specifically, sadness is a normal reaction exhibited by an individual when certain discouraging or sad events happen in an individual’s life or that happens to others. For example, if an individual’s pet dies or there is a loss of a job, divorce or other sad news that is heard, the normal reaction for the individual is to be saddened by the news of that event.

However, if an individual has unexplained weight loss or weight gain, has thoughts of suicide, feels tired all the time, sleeps too much or doesn’t get enough sleep, they may be experiencing clinical depression. Therefore, clinical depression is the state of mind in which the individual feels depressed all of the time without any direct connection to a specific event. In any given year, 5 percent of Canadians will experience clinical depression.

To help the individual to identify whether they are clinically depressed or not there are a number of tools available. One of those specific tools is the availability of a depression test online.

Obviously, the individual logs on to the website and takes the depression test online to determine whether they may be experiencing depression or not or may be bordering on being a possible depressed individual. Specifically, the test poses a number of questions to ascertain how the individual is feeling and responding to certain critical and normal events that happened in the course of a person’s everyday life. Example of some of those types of questions could be the individual’s inability to fall sleep at night, how they would rate their sex drive, do they ever have thoughts of taking their life, how they would rate their self-esteem, etc.

Generally, the responses to the questions are varied. Some of those options may include the response of yes, no or sometimes.

Once the test has been taken, the individual simply clicks the area that encourages them to find out what the results are. Once the results are returned the signs of depression test give the results and rate the individual’s propensity of leaning towards depression or not being depressed.

It is important to note that this test is not 100% accurate nor is it scientific. The depression test online is simply an indicator of where the individual may be at in regards to possibly being diagnosed with depression. After that it’s up to the person to seek out appropriate depression help.
